The place for your creative needs

A new creation from the Asylum

Jun 16th, 2009 | By Sk | Category: News, Voice of the CA

So, here we are, once again, starting a new community effort as “Creation Asylum”. After all, “the CA” itself, as I like to call it, is exactly this: doing something creative, with a little help from your friends.

Creation Asylum started over five years ago, when DubĂ© created a site to host resources for the then new Enterbrain’s RPG Maker XP. The continuous growth started a few months later, when he launched a forum that would build a tightly knit community focusing on several aspects. Originally a game-making community, today it can count on a loving, if not so numerically large, user base, covering virtually all kinds of creative expression.

I think that many of the characteristic aspects of CA come from its two main keywords. The first of them being community. The CA has always been very much a community-driven laboratory of ideas and collaboration. Not only this helped cement personal and creative bonds between people from all over the world; the result has been a forum where people leave (as it’s natural!), but to which they often come back after a few months, years maybe. I myself have had my share of leaves of absence, yet I could never actually forget about the CA. To say it in the words of Hadriel,

CA is like drugs… you try to stop but only a few can truly do it.

The second keyword is creativity. Creativity is the key factor when it comes to producing the finest levels of art. But it is a whimsical muse, and only offers her services when and to whom she decides to; so there may be peaks of creative activity, and long periods of utter lack of inspiration. The CA works the same way: when users find themselves attuned to other people with common interests, it’s a flourishing of debates and artistic experiments. On the other hand, though, there are spans of “quietness”, during which interaction is limited and new users find it hard to integrate in a low-activity community.

But the CA never dies! And just like the mythological phoenix, when it gets so low it seems it’s dead then the community wakes up, and we push each other to do something better, higher, greater for the CA. And since many people around here are experts in their own field, we decided it was time to make our voice heard, not only in the sometimes limited scope of our community but in the broader horizon we could reach.

Thus, the Creation Asylum Magazine is born! This CMS will host articles, reviews, tutorials, essays of the artistic talent of our community, from visual arts to music and creative writing. And of course, this will be a starting point to create an even wider community, thanks to the feedback and interaction that we expect from you, the readers. Plus, for more in-depth discussion of the topics presented here (and many more), you can still head to the board and register for free to join our community. We always have a warm welcome for new people!

Look forward to hear more and more from us! Roll on, and enjoy the show!
